Shell Oil Manager
December 1940

Herbert M. Fish Jr. '29 of Baldwin, N. Y., who started with the Shell Oil Company as a grease man one week after putting his B.A. in his pocket, was named manager of the sales service department of that company last month.

Fish learned the business of selling oil literally from the ground up. Promoted from grease man to a member of a service station installation crew, he climbed up to be a driver-salesman of fuel oil. However, he was soon moved off the oil trucks into the division offices in Boston and from there to the head office in New York. Clerk in the president's office, assistant to the personnel manager of the New York office, assistant to the manager of asphalt sales, office manager of the Atlantic Division, and manager of the sales service department covering the Atlantic seaboard were the final steps up to his present job.
