The Jug End Barn party for our class has been set for the 18th and 19th of May. Don't forget to bring the better half. Will those in the Boston district who are going to the party please let me know by card or telephone Wellesley 1756-R so that I may give Jim White the approximate number.
Received a telephone call from Les Haws from Philadelphia Sunday night. Les called to see if your secretary was behaving himself and said that he and Lois expected to be at the Jug End Barn party. A good time is assured all those who can come.
A post card from Jim White from the Laurentian Mts. in Quebec where he said he was having a grand vacation at a real paradise for skiers. Said he had run into a number of Dartmouth people. Jim says he expects to make an early start on the Alumni Fund this spring and hopes that we will better the grand record our class made last year.
Another card came from Miriam and Ken Harvey who are vacationing in Miami, Fla. Ken wonders if it is time to come North yet.
Ran into Frank Sheehy in town the other day. It's the first time we have seen each other since June, 1924. Frank lives in Waltham and teaches in the High School. He looked fit as a fiddle and ready to step out on the ice for hockey. Frank says he sees Dave Perry once in a while but runs into very few of the boys.
Ken Foley reports a daughter born at Hitchcock hospital Jan. 23. Mother and baby Katrina are both doing nicely.
News filters in that Whit Gowrie has a new house near New Haven. Roy Linnekin married Mary Sinclair of Salem in Sept., 1938. Congratulations to you both. Roy is now working for the International Business Machine Co., in Boston. On Feb. 29th I saw Sumner Robinson at the BruinsToronto hockey game.
Robbie has a factory in Framingham and lives in New York. He was looking as well as usual.
Am indebted to Sherm Baldwin, secretary of the class of 1923 for the following items. Joe Falcon was appointed vice president in charge of sales of the Drybak Corp. Joe has two sons five and eight years old. Joe is interested in his family, hunting, golf and nearly all sports. (Joe, please write me a letter giving me all news in detail from your section of the country. Thanks. Jeff.) Howard M. Booth, otherwise known as Pinky, was elected a director of the State Mutual Life Assurance Co. Congratulations, Howard.
An anonymous card with the following "So Pete Wheatly is bragging about his new daughter! What he did not brag about, but what would interest the class to know, is that he is—member of the firm Keith, Reed and Wheatly, lawyers; Asst. District Attorney of Plymouth and Norfolk Counties, Past President, Brockton Kiwanis Club; Director, Abington National Bank, North Abington Cooperative Bank; Town Counsel, Abington, Mass.; Moderator of Town Meeting, Abington, a position held by his father, Dartmouth '79 for nearly 35 years. Elected President, Abington Mutual Fire Insurance Co., Jan., 1940. To avoid mayhem, this note is signed, Anonymous." Congratulations, Pete. You seem to have had a busy day.
The above is a thumbnail sketch of one of our classmates. I hope to run one or more each month. Any reports on any classmates, such as the above report, would be most welcome. We will not give away the name of the brother sending the report.
The Dartmouth Club of Wellesley held their annual dinner meeting March 4 at the Wellesley Country Club. Featured speakers were S. C. Hayward, secretary of Dartmouth College, Whit Miller, captain of football, and Roy Merchant, vice president of the senior class and a member of Palaeopitus. At the dinner I saw Eve Baker, Bob Smith, Butts Lamson and Tupper. Don Wilbur was elected Treasurer and your Secretary was elected Chairman of the Scholarship committee.
A nice letter came in just too late for last month's news from Van Huick. He writes "Bub Craig is putting in practically all his time these days in the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., preparing data which the government is demanding in connection with their investigation of life insurance companies. I note with interest some remarks in the Feb. issue of the ALUMNIMAGAZINE, concerning the proposed Class Get-together at Jug End Barn this May. I hope that you will give this party a real build-up, for, from previous experience, I know that a wonderful time can be had there, at very little expense, and anyone that shows up will be amply repaid. Now that the wives are being invited, this really should be 'tops' as a party." Thanks for the nice letter Van. Notice the date forJug End Barn party has been set for May18th and 19th.
There are still just a few dues outstanding, please get them in and help George Traver. Also please send your Secretary some news. Let each classmate resolve to write me a letter or a postcard once a month. I will be glad to edit this news. If we want a big column in each issue of the MAGAZINE we must have the news to fill it up. "Quod erat demonstrandum."
Fund Contributors for 1939 Contributors: 345 (94% of graduates). Total gifts: $2,860.89 (87% of objective). JAMES T. WHITE, Class Agent.
