It may be 25 below in Bangor and slushy under foot in Boston as this is written, but by the time you read it the brave little crocuses will be sprouting on the Brinkerhoff lawn in Lincoln and Van Jamieson will be bravely preparing to launch his first Alumni Fund campaign. Over the telephone, from his office at the Ideal Laundry in West New York, Van has just told how he spent eight days in Hanover working at Alumni Fund headquarters preparatory to setting up the Class organization for the campaign which opens in May, and how well the boys whom he has asked to help have responded. Most modestly he reserved for the last the news of his engagement to Ethel Lee of East Orange, N. J.
Speaking of crocuses and the fuller life Phil Gage tells of having dinner at the Harts tone's in Cohasset where Nelson is living the country gentleman's life in a Spanish villa atop a ridge overlooking Cohasset harbor, and Minot's Light beyond. Phil further reports that Fred Armstrong has been transferred to Portland with Lumbermen's Mutual and that he has heard from Bob (Laflin C.) Jones that he has "taken to wife, on April 22, 1939, one Marjorie Ogden" of Milwaukee.

Bill Coles, on a flying visit to the family homestead stepped off the plane at El Paso and came face to face with Nat Barrows fresh in from Albuquerque, bent on wool gathering. The last time they had met was at the Ritz Roof in Boston where Nat's interpretation of the Hopi tribal dances was the hit of the evening. Even Dick Johnson can't shag like Barrows.
"Squeek" Redding writes in—"Last week, while I was doing a little fashionable skiing on the slopes of Mount Gunstock, I found warm-hearted Herm Liss buried in the snow drifts. He said that he had been doing some skiing too. Later I saw him plowing down the mountain and I must say that he looked pretty good. I understand that Gus Herbert has recently been seen spending the night in the North Station terminal. I suppose it is as warm a place as any these wintry nights but the very thought of it saddens me. Bart Stoodley, another barrister, was there the same night. He reports that chivalrous Gus was apparently doing his best to provide for his trusting wife. At midnight he gave her a cup of coffee and at seven o'clock the next morning he was still sitting by her side in the waiting room, bravely looking as chipper as ever. They say it was all because of a blizzard, but I wonder. Couldn't we quietly take up a collection or do something for the indigent lawyers? I cannot believe this pitiful tale would fall on deaf ears if we appealed to such capitalists as Tom Phelps who is now sunning himself on a mid-winter cruise to Nassau and Havana or Ray White who is basking under the palms of Sarasota, Florida. Ray can be reached at 208 North Palm Avenue. Recently, Loretta and I moved again, this time to 10 Cranston Road, Winchester, but as yet we have not seen neighbor John Dickey. However, I expect that when I turn the bee line on his property he will come hopping into sight and then maybe we will sit on the fence and discuss bee culture and the like. Somewhere I read that ten million dollars was made last year in bee keeping; so, maybe we will all be rich. Who knows?"
