THE DARTMOUTH PLAQUE, awarded each year to the secondary school whose delegation of three or more men in the freshman class makes the best scholastic record during the first semester, has been awarded this year to the Melrose High School of Melrose, Mass. The winning delegation of five, whose combined average was 2.84, includes Robert Whitmore Bradford, Lewis Oliver English, Charles Fairweather Kane, John Kimball Jr., and Calvin John Osberg, all of Melrose.
There was a three-way tie for second honors among Jamaica High School, Jamaica, N. Y.; Taft School, Watertown, Conn.; and Western Reserve Academy, Hudson, Ohio; all three of whose delegations had averages of 2.80. The Taft School group consisted of five men, while Jamaica High School and Western Reserve Academy had three men each. Other ranking delegations, in order, were those from Boston Public Latin School, Boston, five men, 3.72; Montclair High School, Montclair, N. J., seven men, 2.60; and Webster Groves High School, Webster Groves, Mo., five men, 2.56.
The Dartmouth Plaque last year went to the Theodore Roosevelt High School of Des Moines, lowa, whose three men had an average of 3.20. The Plaque, engraved with the names of the winning delegation, is sent each year to be hung permanently at the school.
