IN THE NATION'S DEFENSE there are now enrolled 958 Dartmouth men. There were 758 names in the "Directory of Alumni In Service" carried in our July issue. During the summer 200 more men have been called or have volunteered, and the number grows every day.

It is curious that there are some people, even among the admired educated groups, who do not recognize the seriousness of the struggle. For nearly a thousand men and their families, within our own association of the alumni, there is full realization of sacrifice, frustration of plans, and testing of convictions. For these men the process of looking at both sides of the question has ceased. Theirs is a determined front. Can the rest of us, in attitude or action, do less?
