DARTMOUTH-IN-CONNECTICUT was fairly quiescent during the summer, al- though for most of us, as individuals, it has perhaps been the busiest summer we have known. Industry is really under way here, and undoubtedly the press of defense work and related problems will result in curtailment of activity for most of the seven clubs for the coming academic year. I only hope that what is suffered in quantity will be made up in quality.
The New Haven Club held its annual meeting on June 28. A sail on an oyster boat to some wooded rendezvous, a ball-game between alumni and undergraduates, won by (you guessed it), the alumni. A picnic and the election of officers brought the day to a successful conclusion. Officers for next year are: president, Robert C. Mix '27; vice president, Francis H. Horn '30; treasurer, Kendall P. Foster '26; and secretary, Gordon Colby '27. The Executive Committee is made up as follows: William B. Gumbart '13, Thomas A. Sturgess '18, James A. Hamilton '22, Edward C. Cole '26.
Bridgeport held its annual outing in June, and, following precedent, soft-ball, beer and roast beef, and singing constituted the program. A small but vociferous batch of alumni made their presence felt.
It has been the custom of the Bridgeport Dartmouth Club for several years to raise money for scholarship purposes. For a number of years a play has been sponsored at a summer playhouse. Last year the Club departed from this custom, and sponsored a performance in the winter, with fairly good results. This summer a brain storm on the part of Bob Naramore '35 and Sumner "Gus" Farwell '37 resulted in a barn dance, appropriately called the Dartmouth Summer Carnival. A large and enthusiastic crowd of close to 300 attended this party, advertised to include modern and old fashioned square dancing, a midnight snack and an informal atmosphere, furthered by the wearing of old clothes. Bill Haist '34, the club's treasurer, has not yet been able to compute the rather hectic financial picture, but in the near future I hope to report a sizeable sum of money for Mr. Neef's coffers
