PROF. J. MILTON MCDANIEL of the Economics department has been named chairman of the Central Committee of the American Defense Dartmouth Group by President Hopkins. He succeeds Prof. Harold J. Tobin '17 of the Political Science department, whto directed the activities of the Defense Group during its first year and who recently resigned the chairmanship because of the pressure of academic work, increased by his appointment as head of the Political Science department.
President Hopkins also recently appointed Prof. James W. Goldthwait to the Central Committee of the Defense Group 10 take the place of Prof. Richard H Goddard '20, who is carrying a heavy schedule of defense teaching in addition to his regular teaching duties and his work as director of the Shattuck Observatory.
President Hopkins accepted the resignation of Professor Tobin "with appreciation of the organizational leadership and personal efforts which he has contributed to the Dartmouth community in furthering the National Defense program." Professor McDaniel, who now takes over the direction of Dartmouth defense activities other than those related to the curriculum, has been chairman of the sub-committee on radio and public speaking during the past year.
