SPEAKING TOURS to Dartmouth alumni centers in the East and Middle West will be made early in March by Dean Lloyd K. Neidlinger '23 and Prof. Harold J. Tobin '17 of the Political Science department. Dartmouth's new football coach, DeOrmond McLaughry, will appear with Professor Tobin at meetings in Chicago and Minneapolis on March 7 and 8, respectively; and at the end of the month he and Professor Allen R. Foley '20 of the History Department will be guests of honor and speakers at a meeting of Dartmouth alumni in Manchester, N. H., on March 31.
Dean Neidlinger's tour will take him to Albany, N. Y., on March 5, to Buffalo, N. Y., on March 6, and to Pittsburgh, Pa., on March 7. This series of dinner meetings was preceded late in February by speaking engagements with the Dartmouth Club of Baltimore on February 27 and with the Sphinx Society of the University of Pennsylvania on the following evening.
Professor Tobin, who is chairman of the American Defense Dartmouth Group, will speak at five alumni dinners, opening in Syracuse, N. Y., on March 2. The remainder of his itinerary includes Cleveland on March 4, Detroit on March 5, Chicago on March 7, and Minneapolis on March 8. Coach McLaughry will also be a guest of honor at the last two dinners, following a similar appearance at the Dartmouth College Club of New York on February 27 in the company of William H. McCarter '19, director of athletics. While in Cleveland on March 4, Professor Tobin will also address a luncheon meeting of the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce.
Alumni gatherings during February were featured by the appearance of President Hopkins at the annual dinner of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Boston on February 4. Mr. Hopkins flew from Washington to keep this appointment which had been made some months earlier, taking time from his defense duties for one of the few alumni gatherings which he will be able to attend this year. Other speakers at the Boston dinner were Prof. Allen R. Foley '20, Carl F. Woods 'O4 of Boston, and Coach McLaughry.
College representatives at other alumni gatherings during February were Prof. Herbert F. West '22 and Joseph F. Arico Jr. '42 at Wellesley on the 26th, Charles E. Widmayer '30 at Bridgeport on the same evening, and Edward T. Chamberlain Jr. '36 at Lynn, Mass., on the 27th.
