Two NEW MEN joined the Dartmouth faculty at the start of the second semester, filling vacancies caused by the departure of staff members for military and naval duty. Dr. Gordon B. Ray of the University of Vermont has been named Instructor in Spanish, replacing Dr. John H. Cutler who was conscripted for Selective Service training, and Millett G. Morgan of Hanover has been named Instructor in Power Engineering at the Thayer School, replacing Prof. Arthur N. Daniels, Naval Reserve officer who was called up for active duty.

Before going to the University of Vermont last semester Dr. Ray taught for three years at Harvard University while completing the graduate work for his Ph.D. degree. Two years ago he studied in Mexico as a Traveling Fellow from Harvard. Morgan, who is the son of Dr. Frank M. Morgan of Clark School, graduated from Cornell in 1937, earned his Master's degree there in 1938, and in the following year received the E.E. degree from Stanford, where he has completed two years' residence toward his Doctor's degree. He had been teaching at Clark School prior to his Thayer School appointment.

The College has made no substitute arrangement in the case of Adrian Bouchard, staff photographer, who has also been conscripted. Richard C. Jachens '41 and Wendover Neefus Jr. '42 are meanwhile doing much of the photographic work of the Council on Public Relations.
