That industrious Mole, John S. Macdonald '13 (Th. S. '14), chief engineer of the Walsh Construction Co., received one of the first annual Awards of Merit given by fellow Moles for outstanding achievement in their field of endeavor at the society's meeting in the Roosevelt Hotel, New York City, on February 5. Macdonald, who has tunneled three times under New York's East River as well as holing for Philadelphia and New York subways and the Delaware Aqueduct, was given an engraved certificate and a bronze plaque by the Moles "in recognition of his Enterprise, Courage, and Resourcefulness in Construction notably in building of the Queens Midtown Tunnel." The Moles are an organization of men engaged in the construction of tunnels, subways, foundations, marine and similar structures in Metropolitan New York.

Robert Moses, park commissioner of New York City and head of the Triborough Bridge Authority, also came in for a pat on the back as a meritorious Mole.
