UNDER THE DIRECTION of Dean Frank W. Garran of Thayer School, Dartmouth College will sponsor a primary Civilian Pilot Training Course this summer for students and residents of the Hanover area, up to ten per cent of whom can be women. Announcement has also been made of the possibility of a summer secondary course if there is enough demand from undergradu ates who have already passed one of the two primary courses sponsored by the College this past year.
The Civilian Pilot Training Courses at Dartmouth provide flight training at the White River Junction airport and ground training in theory, navigation and meteorology. In addition to Dean Garran as coordinator, Prof. Richard H. Goddard '2O has been serving as instructor in navigation, Harold H. Lane '3l as instructor in meteorology, and Prof. Malcolm C. Henderson as instructor in civil air regulations.
Other possible courses to be sponsored by the College this summer are those which the Thayer and Tuck Schools have offered to give free of charge to engineers and others engaged in defense work in the New Hampshire and Vermont industrial areas near the College. These special courses would be part of the engineering defense training program of the U. S. Office of Education. They are designed primarily for men now employed who desire to fit themselves for more responsible assignments.
