THE NIGHT OF APRIL BTH was the highlight of the year when one hundred and sixty-four alumni and their guests gathered at the Mayflower Hotel for the annual dinner of the Washington club. Not only was it a great party with all the alumni turning out en masse with the usual fine spirit, but to have our own President Hopkins and Bill McCarter honor us with their presence, topped the evening. President Hopkins was our headline speaker and, needless to say, gave his customary fine talk. When he had finished we all realized more than ever before that we have a tremendous part to play in the world today in order that institutions like Dartmouth should survive and continue to furnish the leaders of tomorrow.

Bill McCarter held forth ably on the workings of the Athletic Council as well as activity of the various teams. Alumni from as far away as New York joined us for this occasion, including Harold Prescott 'O9 and Basil O'Connor 'l2 from the aforementioned big city; Paul Gibson 'l5, Len Dunn '27, Kip Chase '3O and Bill King '33 from Richmond, Va„ and Wen Barney '29 from Winchester, Va.

Following the introduction of guests and distinguished alumni seated at the head table, Toastmaster Herb Woods 'lO presented the quartet composed of Chuck Grant '39, Stirling Wilson 'l6, Joe Huber '4O and Frank Hight '36. This able group sang several of the college songs which started the evening off in proper style.

Too much credit for this excellent party cannot go to Hal Fitz '23 and his assistants Barry Sullivan '36 and Baxter Prescott '39. The whole affair was beautifully handled, and the thanks of the local alumni go to these three men.

Coming events: By the time this reaches press the "Dave McCoy party" will have passed into history. .. .we have been looking forward to these Cornell movies for a long time. We are making this a ladies night with the hope that they will also enjoy that victory.... the annual picnic at Bay Ridge has been tentatively set for June 29, so keep this affair on your schedule.... this also is a mixed party. . . .glad to welcome Stoney Jackson '36, Herb Harwood '26, Sam Englander '32 and all the other newcomers to town... .don't forget that the weekly luncheons continue straight through the summer at the air-conditioned Annapolis Hotel. .. .every Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.
