The Salingers, early in July, settled down at the Inn in Dorset, Vermont, for a restful and enjoyable summer but it didn't work out just that way. Soon after their arrival, Alice was brought down with an attack of pleurisy and in August Alex had a severe intestinal attack which took him to the hospital in Bennington, Vt. Alice went with him, of course, and they were there recuperating until September 6, when they were able to return to their home in Hotel Beaconsfield, in Brookline.

The war draft drew one of the faculty of the Department of Education in the service this summer and Geiger had to get back in the harness and take his classes again. I am sure Geig and the students enjoyed this, as no doubt did the potato bugs at the farm.
