AUTHOR'S NOTE

It just happens that after many exposures we have a good picture of William McKenzie Andres (1 year); one of a great many young fellows who get the best of everything each day, and each day look out upon their world resolutely, with a confidence that cannot be misplaced so long as there are Van Jamiesons, Dick Johnsons, Bob Austins, George Hersams, Ray Brisachs, John Dickeys and countless others carrying on: the Class has more than sixty men in the armed services, ten or more in government service, and men and their wives, too many to mention, in Civilian Defense. And working for the College 341, helping Van Jamieson put over the Class' finest accomplishment to date on the Alumni Fund. Now, Van has joined the boys in uniform. He's a Lieutenant (j.g) D-V(P), U.S.N. Frank Kenison is also in the Navy, having resigned his post as Attorney Geijeral of the State of New Hampshire.

Those old roommates, Lyle and Ferrini, are together again in the Navy; a circumstance that inspired them to report: Mike is a lieutenant (j.g.) in the Supply Corps, stationed in Washington. He was married October 1941, and was formerly comptroller and a director of the Groveton Paper Cos. Bob Lyle probably joined the Navy for a rest. Last year he was assistant to the Headmaster of Sidwell Friends School, Washington, assistant air raid warden for Alexandria, Virginia, president of the Alexandria Junior Chamber of Commerce, member of the City Democratic Committee, member of Executive Committee of the Classical Association of the Atlantic States and president of the Classical Club of Washington.

Frank Weeks is also in the Navy, stationed in Washington. He is a lieutenant, Ordnance Volunteer Specialist.

Still another naval lieutenant is Johnny Hubbard of naval aviation. He left the wholesale lumber business, a wife, John Jr., 8, and Anne, 4.

Bill Ivey is serving as a chaplain in the Army, presently assigned to the Port of Embarkation, New Orleans. .

Walt Head is a Ist lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, stationed in Washington and engaged in work of a confidential nature.

Also an Army Air Corps lieutenant is Dick Rogers, now training at Miami. Before enlisting, Dick was building docks in Hingham, Mass.

The last Sunday in July on the Boston-Chicago train I met up with Lieutenant (j.g.) Bart Stoodley, resplendent in white uniform, and appearing very fit. He was on his way to the Great Lakes Naval Training Station for further training before expected sea duty. While in Chicago I tried to get in touch with Lieutenant (j.g.) Dick Johnson but was told that he had been transferred the day before to New Orleans where, it is expected, he will be assigned to command a gun crew aboard an armed merchantman. Had better luck locating Bob Drake for luncheon. He has left the law office of Alden, Latham & Young and is now of counsel for the Chicago office of the National Labor Relations Board.

Jim Kelley married Margaret Elizabeth Simpson of Lexington, Kentucky, May 23; lives at 50 West Schiller Street, Chicago.

Ray Hedger married Dorothy A. Hogan of Cambridge, May 16; lives in Manhasset, Long Island. Ray is with the New York office of Corporation Trust Company.

Charlie Shaeffer works for G.E., lives in Tuckahoe, New York, where one of his neighbors is Frank Middleton, an officer of Manufacturers Trust. Charlie has had visits from Ed How, who is with G.E. in New Orleans, and Eddie Deans of Potsdam, New York, and the Racquette River Paper Cos.

Russ Goudey has been Musical Director of the South American Division of Peer International Corporation since June 1941, engaged in publishing South American music and promoting good will among the 21 Republics. Russ married Florence Jay, October 1941.

Brad Bradley is back fairly close to home after nine years on the Pacific Coast representing Plymouth Cordage. He is now Eastern Division manager with offices in New York.

Eddie Plumb reports for the Vital Statistics Department: Susan, 41/2, and Anne, 6 months. Also "I'm still in the music department at Walt Disney's. Since 'Fantasia' I have done the orchestral arrangements for 'Dumbo' and have had my first major opportunity in composition on the feature 'Bambi.' I was assigned to it as musical director last summer and have had the responsibility of recording the orchestra and chorus. I composed a little more than half of the score as it is heard in the picture. My portion, however, does not include the four songs which were done by Frank Churchill before my assignment to the picture. The adaptation of his material and the composition of dramatic sections and background music has been valuable experience for me. I'm working on some South American shorts now—a project which the studio undertook with the cooperation of Nels Rockefeller's department."

PURCHASING AGENT

Johnny Parker, formerly superintendent of schools, Bath, Maine, is now purchasing agent for Hyde Windlass Company: "In addition to regular school work in a 'boom' town, last summer and fall found me making various trips to your town, New York, and Washington on school construction problems in this particular defense area. Then, in th'e midst of it all, I jumped the track and landed with the above outfit as purchasing agent with all the associated headaches of priorities, limitation orders, government reports, and expediting. As you know, war has had a profound effect on this area and we are doing our utmost to make our contribution along the production lines. My own family grows by the day. Everett, the oldest, is now in junior high school and if he continues at present speed will probably make the class of 1951. To be perfectly frank, it staggers me at times when I stop to realize the fact but I haven't found any grey hairs as yet nor has it receded too much. I often think back to my freshman year. The only difference is the setting. Coles and Spaeth looked trim on the pages of Life, Brisbin is still sounding off about Vermont, Hein continues to be an 'open air' addict and Heath has the same old enthusiasm. It's probably the same with the rest of them."
