THE 47™ DARTMOUTH NIGHT celebration held in Webster Hall on October 8 was a "Night" never to be forgotten by all those present. A new and deeper note, which carried this year's meeting beyond those of other years, was apparent when President Hopkins rose to place before the assembled students and alumni his expression of faith in Dartmouth and its men.
Senator H. Styles Bridges of New Hampshire spoke as guest of honor. Paul Parker '43, of Des Moines, president of Palaeopitus, opened the meeting with keynote remarks. Traditional songs were sung by the crowd led by the band, and the glee club was encored for several numbers.
Mr. Hopkins concluded his talk with the following message to assembled undergraduates: "Say Godspeed, sing 'Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition.' After it's all done, we'll meet again, fellows, and sing 'Dartmouth Undying.'" The Dartmouth said editorially the following morning: "Some day there will be another Dartmouth Night as big and as good and as meaningful as last night's. We hope Mr. Hopkins will be on hand. We hope he'll be smiling and we hope he makes an historical reference to what was said last night." Toastmaster Prof. Allen R. Foley '2O of the history department, in his capacity as master of ceremonies, read telegrams of greeting from alumni groups all over the country. Messages were received from the following clubs and associations:
Baltimore; Boston; Northern California and Nevada; Southern California; Chi- cago; Connecticut; Bridgeport, Connecti- cut; Naugatuck Valley, Connecticut; West- ern Connecticut; Southeastern Florida; Georgia; Houston; Melrose, Massachusetts; Minneapolis and St. Paul; Central New Jersey; New York City; Central New York; Eastern New York; Oklahoma; Oregon; Eastern Pennsylvania; Western Pennsylvania; Spokane; Washington, D.
