WAH-HOO-WAH! Wah-hoo-wah! Da-daDartmouth! Rockey! Rockey!" In the midst of speeches of dignitaries of Colombia at Bogota, Nelson Rockefeller '30 coordinator of Inter-American affairs, and a trustee of Dartmouth College, was very much surprised to hear this cheer for him.

The cheerers were Luis Salmada, ex '42, and George Pradilla, ex '44, and the outburst caused Mr. Rockefeller to say, "I'll never live that down, boys." It all happened at the Bogota airport when the Dartmouth trustee was arriving to discuss Pan-American relations "with Colombian officials, and according to Pradilla, their welcome was the best part of the ceremony.

Several days after the welcoming ceremony the Dartmouth Club of Bogota sent the visiting alumnus the following letter which has been literally translated: Bogota Sept. 24, 1942

Dear Sir: Your visit to Bogota has been a motive of great emotion and happiness for the alumni of Dartmouth College. We want to receive you as a graduate of Dartmouth College for the reason that we never cease to be a part of Dartmouth, thanks to that extraordinary spirit of loyalty and devotion that the university in the North gives to everyone who has the fortune to study there.

Here in Bogota we never forget Dartmouth, its traditions, the beauty of winter, the old story of Eleazar Wheelock, and the songs that we sing during the spring nights. All this forms part of our spirit, but now we have a new responsibility towards our institution; we are forced to remember and bring about the sentimental desire for Dartmouth at a moment when we are actually taking part in a great plot.

The spirit of doubt will help to bring America and Latin America together based on good will ancl therefore to establish a secure basis for a future of the continent. We will defend the principles of democracy which we learned in Hanover and will do our best not to fail the thousands of alumni who are now fighting for liberty on a dozen fronts.

Your visit to Bogota will help us immensely. We are very proud of your work as the coordinator of Inter-American Affairs, and we want to offer you for your gigantic task our best cooperation as LatinAmericans and alumni of Dartmouth.
