Short notes from Allison and Cook indicate neither has items of interest.

Burbank writes that his health and that of Mrs. Burbank has improved but Mrs. Burbank's eyesight is poor, her oculist does not yet recommend an operation. "We enjoy our home, our garden and our friends and life is very beautiful for us in spite of the misery elsewhere in the world."

Ned Dearborn writes a philosophical letter from which I insert his second paragraph:

"Now, in my second childhood, I turn again to the cow for support. I am sustained by her vitimized fluid (Pasteurized of course) and by her example,—her practice of resting and ruminating after periods of labor. My perennial motto, now is Rest and Ruminate. I scan sketchy notes made years ago in the field, and cudgel memory to fill the gaps. I have seen so many things I cannot understand, that I feel lost in a forest of interrogations. What led the robin to reinforce her nest with earth while so many other birds used only fibers? How did chipmunks get pockets? Did the muskrat acquire webbed feet and a flat tail before becoming aquatic or afterwards? Did the beaver get the dam idea by observation or pure reasoning? Such questions are useless, of course so far as information is concerned, but attending implications and conjectures help keep a retired husband out of mischief."

On page twenty-two of the March ALUMNI MAGAZINE is a College News story of the generous gift to the College for the establishment of Botany Prizes from a fund given by Mrs. Willard W. Eggleston. A benefaction thoroughly appreciated by the '91 friends of our "Eggy."

Tewky writes he began his prospective hundred years of life as Dartmouth College completed its first hundred!

Mrs. Sidney Walker, in a postal dated Jan. 9, Honolulu, and released by I.C.B. to reach the Secretary just a month later, tells that all the Walkers are safe and well and doing their part.
