Your Secretary's first days in Springfield were made pleasant by attendance at the annual alumni dinner. Fortunately we met Jim Healey outside the courthouse one noon which is of course where a busy lawyer should be seen and Jim took us along. Beside, Jim there were present Eddie Elkins and Horace Borden, so the four of us had a fine sub-reunion. Eddie is president of one of the largest construction companies in this section. His son, incidentally, expects to enter the Army soon. Horace Borden has been in the bond business here for years, while Jim Healey dashes between Springfield and Holyoke, maintaining law offices in both cities. Must say these boys have weathered well—must be the wateranyway we had a most pleasant evening.
While we are still talking Springfield, for the benefit of those who took the Ordnance nance Stores School work we can tell you that in one respect, at least, things have not changed much since World War I—and that is our old friend Paper Work. Requisitions, stock cards, bills of lading and accountability forms appear like old friends same format, same number of copies, etc. & etc.
Indorsements pile up in the same old way while routing of correspondence through "military channels" still pursues its devious ways. Some day in a mellow mo- ment we plan to write a monograph in defense of Red Tape. Meanwhile come on boys, jump in the big show—the water's fine.
Doing pretty well with second-generation marriages this month. John and Pauline Burleigh announce the marriage of their son George Crafts to Miss Mary Jane Mulherrin at Hanover on February 14, 1942.
The Myron Files' son George was pictured in the Boston Herald rotogravure re- cently with his fiancee, Miss Virginia Chawlis.
Well, Time marches on. Remember our tenth reunion and the baby picture show? If nature pursues her normal course and we are blessed with a reunion in 1944 we can look forward to quite a galaxy of grandchildren.
Must remind you boys again to continue your cooperation in reporting the news of yourself and family in the war effort. Not only is the Alumni Records Office anxious to maintain up-to-date records, but the boys here and there will enjoy reading 1914 news. Remember Ted Marriner's bulletins last time. They made fine reading somewhere in France. So, for the boys on the far-flung lines, please write the Secretary some chatty items. Many of you haven't written for years so information about you and you and you will be doubly welcomed by all just now.
Pleasant evening with Bob Hopkins last week as he passed this way. He reported the New York Dartmouth dinner had a fine 1914 turnout. Among those present were Ken Fuller, Walt Humphrey, Gordon Sleeper, Ralph Jenkins, "Kelly" Kalendarian, Fred Davidson, Jack McCullough, Walt Daley, Jim Hennahan, Moose Englehorn, Marshall Picken, Bill Hands, Jeff Beals and Fish Herring. Fish brought along a guest—Tom Kerwin, who explained at great length that he was having a grand time and that he also had three degrees, from Yale, Cornell and Michigan and that he would swap all three for you know what.
And among those present, too, was the toastmaster Sig Larmon whom the program listed as 1911. Memo to 1911 officers and members: as freshmen we looked up to you grand old seniors. And now you try to take us over. Will agree that Sig's Dartmouth efforts transcend the class—but you can't have him, he belongs to us. Now will you lay off!
