Your Reunion Committee has spent considerable time compiling the many excellent suggestions given in your questionnaires and planning the Reunion in accordance wi th your desires. The most difficult has been that of the costume. You may remember that in our first mailing piece we made the amazing offer of a free costume to the first guy to suggest the costume finally selected. No doubt you have all been waiting with bated breath to learn the outcome of this contest. The more thoughtful members of your committee wanted to award the prize to Chuck Carroll who suggested: "Let's be different and not have any costume." This made it very simple for if we accepted his suggestion then Chuck would not have any costume free. However, reading further in his ques- tionnaire we discovered that Chuck was afraid he couldn't attend the reunion. This presented a real problem for how could we present him with no costume for nothing if he wasn't even going to be there. Then, too, there were all those questionnaires that left the costume question blank. All those could claim that they had suggested no costume and we would have to split the prize too many ways which wouldn't do anybody any good. All this became so confusing that we rather wisely decided to adopt the costume for which the greatest number had voted. Same as the Tenth. In case you weren't there, the most striking, and at the same time most useful costume ever seen on the Hanover plains. A green, light-weight sweater with a large white "27" on the chest, and a white hat with green "27" numerals. The numerals may be removed from the sweater after Reunion if you like it better that way, and there you have a very useful sweater that will just about be worn out when you get the next one at the Twentieth. We may not be able to duplicate the sweaters of the Tenth, but at least we'll promise you a reasonable facsimile. And now for the "lucky winnah." Both Ross Nichols and Bill Abbott made the winning suggestion along with many others, but their questionnaires bore the earliest postmark and both were mailed on the same day. To break the tie we are suggesting that Ross and Bill match pennies, two out of three times, at the Class Meeting on Saturday morning of reunion to determine the winner.
The rest of the program has also been planned in accordance with the wishes of the great majority. A minimum of planned events allowing for a maximum of browsing about Hanover, informal reuning or what you will.
Ken Lee reports that he will be in Hanover in May. Ken is now eastern advertising representative for Popular MechanicsMagazine with offices in the Empire State Building in New York City.
From Rog Braman we learn of the arrival of another daughter in their family, Mary Avery Braman who was born November 26, 1941. Unfortunately Mrs. Braman was quite seriously ill, but we are glad to report, is now recovering rapidly. Rog and his wife intend to be in Hanover for the Reunion.
On February first, Bill Skinner was advanced to the rank of Major in the 213th Coast Artillery. Bill is stationed at Staten Island, and spends most of his time riding
around in a "jeep" inspecting his units. He reports that said "jeeps" are the least comfortable of all vehicles.
A clipping from the .January 18 th issue of the Dayton, 0., News informs us that Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Howard of Columbus announce the engagement of their daughter, Natalie Howard Ford to Thomas Bemis Wheeler II, of Troy, Ohio. We also learn that Tom is now associated in business with the division of securities, State of Ohio. The wedding took place on Saturday, January 21, in Dayton.
Charlie Bartlett has spent the past ten days in the hospital having had a tough siege of pneumonia. We are glad to report that at the time of writing he has returned to his home and is recuperating nicely.
Leon Loeb is working for the Public Relations Council in New York City. Charlie Huntley has recently moved to Austin, Texas. Bill St. Amant and his family have moved to 44 Chapin Road, Newton Center. Bill is working in the real estate business in Boston with Gwynn Associates.
Harvey Jones very kindly sends us a note enclosing a picture of Bill Abbott and his bride. Bill was married to Elinor Whiting Hagey of Chicago on Tuesday, March 3. They are now in the South on their wedding trip.
Bill Montgomery is now writing advertising copy for L. E. McGivena, Inc., in New York City. He lives at Hotel Tudor, 304 East 42nd Street.
A swell letter from Curt Wright informs us of the arrival of a daughter in his household. Miss Eleanore Wickersham Wright was born on February 19th, and both mother and daughter, not to mention papa, are doing well. From Curt we also learn that Si Morand is a production executive in an ammunition plant, where he is doing very well. Also that George Howell is temporarily leaving his law practice for either defense work or the Army.
Did you happen to read the report of the Annual Meeting of the Long Island Dartmouth Association in the last issue of this MAGAZINE? We got a particular kick out of the list of officers for next year. For president, Rudy Preuss; one of the vice presidents, John Shaw; treasurer, Guy Bostwick; secretary, Art lieleher; and on the executive committee, among others, Gene Sullivan and Fritz Kortlucke. Looks like '27 is doing a swell job for the College in that neck of the woods.
By reading the account of last year's Alumni Fund appearing in this issue you can't help but get a thrill out of the grand record of your class. Let's hope that all the names appearing below will be in there next year together with a considerable number of new ones.
Tempus seems to fugit particularly these days and May 15 th is sneaking up on you rapidly. Plan to be there and let us know you are coming as soon as possible.
