Frank W. Miller '93, who can remember the days when boards of education made a shooting issue of their views, retired recently after rounding out over half a century of public school work in Ohio.

Teaching even before he came to Dartmouth, Mr. Miller returned to Dayton schools with an A.B. and M.A. to climb Ohio's educational ladder as high school teacher, principal, county examiner of teachers, state commissioner of common schools, state superintendent of public instruction, and superintendent of Dayton's public schools. Before he retired, he had been a member of the Ohio legislature and of the Dayton board of education, authored a bill making teaching of vocational agriculture compulsory in rural schools, started schools for the crippled, and cleaned up the "little red schoolhouses."
