(Thayer School '09)Secretary, Thayer Society of Engineers
THE FIRST THING that must be examined in the report of the Fund is the number of givers. As this column is concerned only with gifts to the Alumni Fund from Thayer men, it is found that the number has increased again to a new high mark of 381. This is very encouraging.
The total of gifts from Thayer men was $7,282, a considerable increase over the $6,230 of the previous year, and the highest of any of the last six years, which are the years commonly used for comparison of results of the combined Fletcher and Alumni Funds. The stimulation of the 25th Anniversary of President Hopkins must have contributed to this fine 17% increase in gifts, as it did to the 40% increase in the Alumni Fund as a whole.
While the total contributions of Thayer School men to the Alumni Fund is still substantially behind the average combined totals of the Fletcher Fund and the Alumni Fund for thirteen years of separate operation of the two funds, the record of the past two years shows marked improvement. The average gift in 1940-41 from Thayer men, Sig.10, compared with the average gift to the Alumni Fund of $16.70, reflects the desire of Thayer men to contribute to the Thayer School in addition to their regular support of Dartmouth College arid is in line with the traditional loyalty of Thayer men to Dartmouth.
The figures of the last six years as compared with the average figures for thirteen years of separate operation are as follows: In the hands of informed and intelligent
