"I was extremely pleased to receive your card and to know that all is well with you. It is time that all of our men of '90 retired to enjoy the few remaining years in relaxation and comfort and I rejoice to know that you will retire and I hope you will come to Florida. I thought that I had retired a number of years ago, and came to this wonderful clime to get the best out of life, but the bursting of our great boom put a quietus on my plans, and I am and have been in the harness for years again, earning my daily bread with a little jam for relish. I know of no better place in the world to enjoy living than right here in Miami, and my advice to you is to come to Miami and buy one of these beautiful homes that we have been building so plentifully t the past few years.
"One may buy a really marvelous home for from $5,000 to $10,000, depending on location and size, and a citizen of Florida is entitled by law to a homestead exemption up to $5,000, free from taxation. I find that the cost of living is considerably less than in the North, less fuel and clothes to buy, plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables at moderate prices, although at present, due to our National Defense program, food is rising in price.
"St. Petersburg is a good place to live and thousands of our Northern friends spend their winters there, but more thousands come to Miami. Whenever you may come, I shall be tickled pink to see you, and I shall be only too glad to be of service to you at any time. With kindest regards I am, Very sincerely yours, Earle."
