LEO M. Silvierstein '43 of New York City was this month elected President of the Outing Club for the coming year to succeed Harry Bond '43, of Boston. Silverstein, who is manager of the varsity ski team, was elected head of the club at the annual meeting of the outgoing and incoming executive councils held just prior to the club's spring banquet in early April.
Serving under Silverstein on the new executive council will be Charles J. Ditmar '43, secretary; Richard M. Farnsworth '43, Cabin and Trail; Charles E. Dorkey Jr. '43, Cabin and Trail; Robert W. Thede '43, Cabin and Trail; Warren E. Preece '43, director of publicity; and Michael Frothingham '43, who, along with Ditmar and Silverstein, represents the Winter Sports Department on the council. Frothingham was also elected undergraduate representative on the Board of Trustees.
The election of the new executive council completed the roster of personnel which will guide the club during the coining summer and fall seasons under the general management of John A. Rand '38, graduate manager.
The leaders of Cabin and Trail, as announced at the spring meeting, are Thede, chairman; Anthony Farrell '43, secretary; James Hardigg, trails and shelters; Ditmar and Joseph Hirschberg, trips; Dorkey, cabins; Sydney Bowers, instruction; Chester Solez, I.0.C.A.; William Schumacher, firefighting, and William Mussey, special publications. Two student positions remain to be filled on the Cabin and Trail directorate.
Directing the activities of the Winter Sports Department of the club throughout its coming season will be Ditmar, chairman; Robert Meservey, captain of the varsity ski team; Frothingham, manager of the freshman ski team; Silverstein, manager of the varsity ski team; John Cooke, manager of the skating team; Amasa Pratt and Thede, co-directors of competition; Sydney Bowers, assistant director; Edward Seidman, assistant manager of the skating team; James Lang, assistant manager of the freshman ski team; Richard Backus, assistant director of competitions; Frederick Hickey, assistant manager of the varsity ski team; and K. Rowley Musser, secretary on I.S.U.
At the meeting at which the above officers were announced, Harry Bond, retiring president, reported that the club had voted to present Hans Paschen '28T, present graduate manager, with a certificate of honorary life membership in the club.
