RACING AGAINST A RECORD field of 87 entries, Kennard Perry '44 of Denver, Colo., this month won the annual DOC sponsored Class C downhill race. The event was held on March 8 on the Snapper Trail at the Ravine Camp, the runners being held to exceedingly slow times by the deep sticky snow. Perry's winning time was 1:03.0.

Following Perry in second and third positions were S. M. Treat Jr. of Deerfield Academy, with a time of 1:03.9, and G. R. Taylor of Exeter Academy with 1:07.2.

The Outing Club this year ran the McLane Moosilauke Trophy in conjunction with the Class C race, the McLane prize going to the three members of the Dartmouth class turning in the best combined times. Led by Perry, the sophomore class this year took the trophy. Teammates of Perry's on the mythical winning team were Wynn Underwood and Richard Allen. With Ray Colby, Art Lynn, and Pres Moore turning in the next best scores the juniors placed second in the inter-class team competition, followed by the freshmen in third, and the seniors a weak fourth.

The Winter Sports Division of the Outing Club announced early in March the appointment of Leo Silverstein '43 and Michael Frothingham '43 to the managerships of the varsity and freshman ski teams respectively. Silverstein, a resident of New York City, will succeed Harry Allen Jacobs as manager of the varsity squad, while Frothingham, also of New York, succeeds John Mendes in the yearling post. Both of the new ski managers are at present coeditors of Dartmouth Out O' Doors, annual year book of the club, and both served last year as co-managers of the ski team.

The Outing Club played host this month to nearly a hundred students from member colleges of the I.0.C.A. at the annual winter houseparty at the Ravine Camp during the first week-end of March. DOC-President Harry Bond was in charge of the week-end, which featured open ski races, entertainment by Ross McKenney, group singing, and country dances led by the Reverend Chester Fisk of the White Church. Bond reports that the party was exceptionally well attended, and was considered a success by the I.0.C.A. members. Lack of interest on the part of members of the senior class forced the cancellation of the DOC's annual Senior Carnival, which had been scheduled for March 14-15. 111 announcing the unfortunate cancellation, Wilmer C. Dutton '42, chairman in charge of entertainment for the carnival, pointed out that many of the reservations for the week-end were cancelled because students had to undergo examinations for the Army and Navy.
