This Month
EVERYTHING IS RUNNING ahead of schedule this year, and the ALUMNI MAGAZINE gets into the swing of things by presenting its annual review of Commencement and class reunions in this June issue, one month earlier than usual.
The story of Dartmouth's first graduation under the accelerated war program starts on page 11, and on page 13 is presented a description of the special alumni week-end which followed Commencement and which brought to Hanover not only the reunion classes, from 1887 to 1937, but also the Alumni Council, the Secretaries Association, the Class Treasurers Association, and the newly organized Class Agents Association. The Fifty-YearAddress, delivered by A. D. Salinger '92 at the General Association meeting, is printed on page 18.
Full texts of Commencement addresses carried in this issue include President Hopkins' Baccalaureate and Valedictory, starting on page 15; the seniors' Valedictory to the College by Charles M. Pearson '42, on page 17; and the citations delivered by President Hopkins in conferring honorary degrees, on page 20.
The address by William W. Grant '03, Life Trustee of the College, following the traditional Commencement luncheon, is printed in full, starting on page 19, Of the Class Day events, the Address to the College by Thomas W. McElin '42 is printed on page 21 and the Class Poem, The Winds, is presented on page 30.
