In the N. Y. Sun we found this at the head of an article, "Capt. Averill Clark Downs Two Germans." This was in a raid over France. Ave transferred from the RAF to the U. S. Army Air Corps shortly after Pearl Harbor. In February, while still a lieutenant, he won a citation. Lt. Rog Blood is now with the Marines in the Solomons area, and writes home that Herb Wolff is in his platoon.

Fritz Hier wrote from pre-flight at Williamstown that Hardwick Caldwell, Rog Arnold, Lem Arnold, Tom Douglas, Buzz Beattie, Bob Riebow, Wemo Epply, Whitey Myers, Bud Welch, Phis Penberthy, Bill Marsh, Bob Ross, Rog Chapin and himself, form a '44 nucleus there for a Dartmouth unit which would probably be sent to pre-flight school together Howie Johns has been commissioned a 2nd It. in the AAC 2nd Lt. Art Kiendl has entered West Point for further training Johnny Denison has his Navy Air Corps wings.... Bill McGrail a midshipman in the Merchant Marine, is now on overseas duty .... Art Saul is getting Army engineering training at M.I.T. Jack Sterling writes from an island in the South Pacific that he is in a rest camp, getting ready for more action .... Bob Hyde is about finishing his basic at Camp Pickett, Va Jack Stevenson is a machine gunner at Camp Roberts, Calif.

. ... Ted Colwell is now at Colorado State College of Education, studying Engineering and Operations for the AAC. Joe Goldstein is taking his basic somewhere in Texas .... Dick Backus is at the advanced Navigation School at Selman Field. La. ....Jim Hays has finished pre-flight, is now at Glenview, 111 Perry Craver is undergoing the last phase of flight training at Stuttgart, Ark., prior to receiving his wings in the AAC.

Jorge Piadilla writes that life in Colombia is just as it was before the war: "Plenty of everything: gas—food—clothes —tires—and fun." . . . . Al Whitlock is in the Marine Unit at Princeton .... Phil Brown has been assigned by the Army to study languages at Harvard .... Joel Coffin is somewhere outside the U. S Bill Warner is flying with the Army at Sikeston, Mo Jack Lovewell, Ken Perry, and Tom Craighead are all at the Naval Training Station at Farragut, Idaho Bruce Thomson is at Camp Lee, Va Win Martin is back in the States after seeing a lot of the Middle East with the American Field Service Cy Robbins is assigned ]to an A-20 squadron which has been training in the California desert

Harry Davis and Jack Jenness are studying meteorology at the State U. of lowa. Jack writes that Dick Allenby is at Radar school at Ft. Grant and is headed for a commission. Ed Bailey is another who is in lowa City with Jack .... Kirk Bassett taking an ASTP course at Purdue; Boge Bogart at Fort Ord, Calif. George Cusack at OCS in Chemical Warfare at Edgewood Arsenal, Md., and Blimp Frieman in the Navy and stationed at Melbourne, Fla., are other '44s we've heard from recently.

Lots of news this month for our "Hearts and Flowers Dept." Air Cadet Bob Eshbaugh was married to Octavia James on July 25. They are residing in Macon, Ga. Dick Keady and the former Patricia O'Donnell of Melrose spent their honeymoon ]at the Hanover Inn. Dick is now stationed at Camp Lee, Va. Walter Burke and Constance Morse were married in June, and their home is now the Hotel Beverly, N. Y. C. AC George Galbraith and Miriam Graff of Cranford, N. J., also had a June wedding, and are living in Clemson, S. C. Engagements reported are those of George Cornell to Janice Porter, of Hanover. Her father is assistant bursar of the College. Lt. A. H. Welch is engaged to Elizabeth Britton of Hartford, Conn., and Pine Manor; AC Bob Riebow to Frances Hoffman of Hempstead, N. Y., and Skidmore; AC Larry Farley to Leonora Stockmann of Kings Pt., L. I.; Dick Rice to Sarah Dunlap, Sargent College; and Warren Leopold to Marjorie Meyer of New Rochelle.

Ja Densmore is just about to receive his wings at the advanced Twin-engined Bomber School in Seymour, Ind. Ja was a member of the original Army Dartmouth Squadron.

LT. JAMES N. ELLIOTT '44, of the Chemical Warfare Service, who is serving as an administrative officer for several of the war plants around Springfield, Mass.
