YOUR SECRETARY has more news to give you now than he has had in many a moon.
Jim Rick '31 is Officer of the Day at the Naval Air Base in Memphis, Tenn. He expects to arrive home within the next several weeks for a short furlough, and perhaps he can tell us more about his activities for publication in the next issue. Bud Erdman '37 is located at the Navy Base in Bar Harbor, Maine, but details concerning his duties are rather vague. Caroline and Bud Jr. joined him on July 1, at which time they took a house, and as far as your secretary could learn will stay there for at least several more months.
Andy Marshall '22 came through with a swell letter. We quote briefly: "Of course Ken Smiley '21 is a highly respected and popular member of the community here in Bethlehem. He is very active in many other groups and charities, and his fame as a speaker continues to grow. So far as the Marshall family are concerned, there just ain't nothin' to report. We stayed home this summer (like lots of others) and what with mowing the lawn, doing odd jobs around the house, and tending our garden, we managed to keep out of mischief. Haven't seen any of the Allentown gang for a long time. The d—n trolly ride to Allentown is just too much!"
In the event anyone was unaware of Lee Bausher's '21 recent activities, we take this opportunity to inform you he is closely associated with Reading Airchutes, Inc., manufacturers of parachutes for the army. Lee says their motto is "Well let you down easy." Dutch is also very much engrossed in a job for his class and for Dartmouth. As chairman of the 25th Anniversary Gift to the College, he has a lot of hard work ahead of him. More news next month.
