The most difficult news to write is to inform you of the death of Lieutenant Johnny Mullen '38. Johnny is the only one of our gang to have paid the supreme sacrifice so that we at home might continue our relatively easy existence. He was first reported missing by the War Department on July 24, only four days after his arrival in Normandy, but a telegram several weeks ago notified members of his family of his death.
The more important highlights of Johnny's life will be found in the Necrology section. However, it is certainly in order to state in this column that all of us loved Johnny for the zest he put into living, and we will miss deeply, his straightforward manner and his contagious enthusiasm for every job he tackled.
