It has been a long time since we have had some real news from our Western Frontier and so Howie Almon was asked to contact the Two-ters living along the West Coast to find out what they were doing and with the suggestion that they send greetings back to those of us in the other parts of the country. How well Howie succeeded you may see for yourself through reading the following excerpts from various replies.

First off, though, about Howie. In his own words—"As for me, after about eighteen years in San Francisco, I had a fine opportunity offered me here in Los Angeles. 8.8.D.0. is one of the largest agencies in the country and I've been very happy that I made the change. Valeria and Susan came down with me, of course, and we are renting what was once a fine estate with four acres of oranges, other fruit trees, gardens, etc. in Altadena, which is really part of Pasadena. We are enjoying the change from a modest house in Berkley, and getting a good deal of outdoor living. .... I am on the books as an Accountant Executive .... at present I am writing copy for North American Aviation and am also involved in helping to get the California olive growers started on a national advertising campaign on olive oil and ripe olives. The brand name is Cal-Crest on the olive oil. That's all there is about me—I am just another average American in a nonessential business, trying to buy bonds and pay taxes."

Thanks a lot, Howie, for your efforts and the latest news from the Almon family.

Now a word from Dick Livermore of Colorado Springs—"From the time I left Dartmouth in March '22, I was in the department store business here in Colorado Springs until 1941, when I sold the business and loafed for five months .... then early in '42 in conjunction with a friend I purchased the largest restaurant in Colorado Springs. In other words I went from rags to hot groceries. Early in 1942 with the establishment of Camp Carson and a couple of air bases within close proximity to Colorado Springs the town more than doubled its population and, consequently, our new business venture is a great success. Handling from 2,000 to 3,000 soldiers a day is plenty rough, and twelve to fifteen hours of working a day is a little more than I anticipated, but to date have been able to make it My children are now seven and nine years old and I am hoping my son will chose Dartmouth I am hoping some day to make a reunion, but to date have been unable to do so With kindest regards and be sure and look me up if you ever get to this part of the country."

Next, Ray Wason is heard from at 632 Martin Way, Vancouver, Washington: "Six years in contracting business in Oswego, Oregon, a suburb of Portland ....

over a year now with Kaiser in their Vancouver yard. Rated as engineer, one of the most interesting jobs in the yard. My roommate at Dartmouth was Joe Ross. We had maintained only the slightest contact in the last fifteen years and my last knowledge of him until recently was a card from Alabama. Out of a clear sky he called me at the plant and is now working there with me. Joe is a much traveled boy—Alaska, New Zealand, Mexico."

Joe, how about a direct word from you? I'm afraid I've rather lost track of you since your Albany days. If you get a chance, please drop me a line.

Buck Perry coming up! Modestly he says, "You know everything there is to know about me.... busy supplying eggs and poultry to the Armed Forces and giving what is left to the civilians. Been spending most of my time lately in the Middle West but haven't seen any Two-ters."

You will be interested to know that Phil Gove is a Navy lieutenant and Godfrey Canty is with the Marines. Phil's wife and two children are running a five-acre ranch in Spring Valley where Phil stays as often as is possible. We hope to have more information on these two boys for you in a later issue.

Karl Brooks, Petaluma, Calif., attorney is next on the list "I am still married, and have two children, Charlie, aged seven or thereabouts, and David, four or less. Neither of these young men have manifested any particular concern about Dartmouth. The former is showing little or no enthusiasm about the Petaluma grammar school which opens next Monday, whereas the latter shows only a mild interest in Sunday school. Like most lawyers in small communities, I am rather swamped with civilian war-time activities, which include membership on the Civilian Defense Council, member of the gasoline panel of the local war rationing board, captain of a local war bond drive team, member of the local ground observation corps, and a member of the local Army and Navy recreational committee. . . . .Have been the City Attorney of this city for about ten years, and this job, along with some general practice, at least keeps me busy enough to stay out of mischief It seems like a coon's age since I've seen any one from Dartmouth, but I will admit that this is entirely my own fault. I keep promising myself that I will go into San Francisco to one of the luncheon meetings, but for the past few years have discovered that I am very unreliable in complying with such promises Have been very interested to hear about the Twenty-Twoters from time to time in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, and particularly about those in the Service. Have enjoyed McKowan."

Parker Meade is the last on our schedule for this issue. Park's new home is 4143 Sunset Road, Mission Hills, San Diego 3, Calif., where he is living with his parents. His letter to Howie was a humdinger and from it the following high-lights have been taken "I am still a bachelor .... after living in Cleveland practically all my life, Mother, Dad and I came to San Diego and bought a home here .... the Yosemite Valley is. my favorite natural spot on earth, and San Francisco my favorite city For a while I set up a studio in La Jolla where I worked on plans for tourist projects and a World University.... after war was declared I went to work at the Solar Aircraft Co. in San Diego and am now in the Material Control Department . . . .am senior air raid warden over two sectors in my residential district. All of this is different from my twenty-one years as a real estate broker in Cleveland .... am a member of the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club .... met Charley Proctor in the Yosemite Valley last May .... met Fred Bornman '2l, now a Navy lieutenant "

See you next month.
