Our hearts are with Newton who writes: "Mary passed on to a larger life on December 22. The funeral was at our home, a simple service as she had requested." Harry Burley represented the class and two Dartmouth neighbors, W. C. Hill '02 and H. P. Patey attended the service. During her illness of the past two years she showed wonderful courage, always cheerful and looking forward to recovery.

Mrs. Mary Chase (Swett) Newton was born in Worcester, Mass., but spent most of her early life in Chicago, graduating from the University of Chicago in 1898 with a Ph.B. degree. She travelled widely both in this country and abroad and had such literary ability that her travel letters were often published. While in Chicago she was an active member of the Chicago Woman's Club. After she became Mrs! Newton she was active in the Newton Centre Unitarian Church, the local Woman's Club and the Boston Woman's City Club.

Christmas greetings came to Newton or to the Secretary from: Spud, Dr. and Mrs. E. B. Philbrook, Biff and Lillian, Mary Frost, Samuel and Grace Rose, Howard, Wales, Pete and Eleanor, Mrs. Hatch, Marden's daughter—Mrs. Fitts, Mrs. Ransom, Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Snow.

Dr. Harris is still at the Westchester Division of the New York Hospital at White Plains, N. Y.

Mrs. Snow sent a copy of a letter to her son Conrad from his superior officer in the Chief War Department Signal Office in Washington, D. C. The second of five paragraphs in this letter reads: "Your efforts in the organization and development of the Legal Branch of the Office of the Chief Signal Office and as an Officer in Charge of that Branch, have been noteworthy for their intelligence, spirit of cooperation and administrative ability." All of us in '86 share with Mrs. Snow her pride in our Leslie's son.

Secretary, 215 Walnut St., Montclair, N. J.
