Elizabeth Park has a new title (so named by the College) and is now Class Widows' Chairman. With this issue we bring you news from the many 1912 widows whom Elizabeth has brought to light. Eleanor Richards, living in Midland Park, N. J., traveled back to Harvard, Mass., in September where she and Joe lived for 30 years. The old church there where Ralph Waldo Emerson was once the pastor burned down in 1967 and is now replaced with a beautiful colonial edifice, picture of which was enclosed. Eleanor, active and happy, sends in her contribution to the College each year. From Clearwater, Fla., Sarah English writes she is living in a church-owned Retirement House with a lovely view from her windows of the Bay. We missed Alice Ekstrom at reunion this year but we all understood, her first June without Louis. She spent part of the summer visiting her children in New York State. Ruth Worton made Briggs Beach at Little Compton, R. I., again this slimmer and is planning on Florida after Christmas. She is looking forward to the holidays in New England for a change where she will be enjoying all the family. Another 1912 widow, Alice Hitchcock, writes from a nursing home in Cohasset, Mass. Alice had an unfortunate experience in June with a severe nose bleed necessitating transfusions of four pints of blood. She keeps busy now, among other things, making clothes for her eleven-year-old granddaughter. Hazel (Cobb) Town-send gives us an up-to-date report on the doings of Al and herself. Like all the rest of us, she misses Lyme Armes. Hazel and Al keep close to MacDill Air Force Base Hospital as Al has a heart disability. Year 'round in Clearwater isn't too bad for them as they see a lot of the Jerome Lincolns and some of Sarah English and in past winters the Al Smiths were nearby. Another nursing home dweller is Mae Brooks who moved in there in January 1969 following a heart attack. Mae has to occupy herself reading, writing letters, and watching TV. Cheer her up, girls, with letters to Mrs. H. Harrington Brooks, 2642 Central Drive, Flossmoor, Ill. 60422.

Rachel Bellows is fortunate to be able to keep her home instead of exchanging it for an apartment. She has two sons, one Dartmouth 1945 in Buffalo and the other in New York City. One grandson has been a student at Gordonstown School in Scotland and has his sights set on Dartmouth. Here's hoping he makes it! A long letter from Gabrielle Forbush tells of a summer cruise in the Caribbean, a visit to the dog shows and to the opera in New York, topped off with an annual "foliage weekend" in the Pennsylvania mountains. Her 1912 Vassar reunion found 22 on hand, enlivened by one of the 75 boys who are now Vassar students. Last but not least came word from EleanorMensel impressed by the interest and devotion we '12ers have for Dartmouth. She is proud, and rightly so, of her grandson who is an enthusiastic member of the Class of 1973. His father was '50, his grandfather Ernest '12, and his great-grandfather '87. Another grandson is in Amherst College.

Three sad notes must be added here. We lost Al Smith on October 17, 1969 after a long illness, Mark Snow passed away on October 25, 1969 after a short illness, and Syd Clark's wife Mardi suffered a stroke the past summer leaving her partially paralyzed. Al's position as Bequest Chairman is so very important these days we are hoping someone will be found to fill his shoes. And to Eleanor goes the sympathy of all the Class in this trying time. Mark was a loyal and devoted supporter of the College as well as of his Class. Both Mark and Marion have been on hand for most of our annual reunions. Our sympathy goes out to Marion in her loss. Syd was far out on some island outpost in Japan when called home suddenly. As active as Syd is with his world-wide traveling, Mardi's illness makes his lot doubly difficult. We're all pulling for him and hope for better days ahead.

Dave Dorward says it was a very hot summer in Atlanta and from reports the heat there seems to be still on. His interesting daughter was in Hawaii this summer explaining her educational toys to the teachers at the University of Hawaii. John Brewster got lost for a while this summer as the College didn't have his summer address in Dallas, Pa., and your Secretary failed to make a note of it from the Billboard. Now he is back at Treadway Inn, Lebanon, Pa. It was great to have John and his son with us in Hanover in June. Katherine and Connie Snow must have had a wonderful cruise this autumn as they visited practically every European country having a seacoast aboard the "M.S. Gripsholm." My card came from La Cote d'Azur, a beautiful sight. Nonnie andRoy Lewis are back in Venice, Fla., where Roy is already planning for our 1970 reunion, June 15-17. You'll be hearing more about it in the Billboard.

Our congratulations to Ethel Redfield who is making a bequest to the College in memory of Dud. There should be many others and don't wait till you die!
