DARTMOUTH MEN will be interested to learn that Kimball Union Academy has joined the ranks of institutions training men to win World War 2.
Two units of forty men each have been sent to Meriden by the Naval Aviation Cadet Selection Board. These men were enlisted in the V-5 program. They are now on active duty preparing to become combat pilots.
Of particular interest is the news that twenty-five Dartmouth men were in the group which arrived on March 11th. This Dartmouth Unit was escorted to Kimball Union by Lt. "Whitey" Fuller '37.
Eastern Aviation, Inc., of Claremont, N. H., and Bugbee Flying Service of White River Junction, Vt., are the Flight Contractors. They are each training forty men at the present time. The requirement is a minimum of 35 hours of flying.
The cadets receive 240 hrs. of ground school. This consists of 48 hrs. of drill and physical training, 8 hrs. of military science, 20 hrs. of code, 36 hrs. of mathematics, 30 hrs. of physics, 16 hrs. of civil air regulations, 10 hrs. of service of aircraft, 24 hrs. of meteorology, and 12 hrs. of aircraft identification.
It is expected that the men will next be sent to Chapel Hill for further physical training. Every precaution is taken to make sure that the men at Kimball Union do not receive physical injuries which will prevent their progress in flying.
Coordinator of the program for the Navy and the C.A.A. is William R. Brewster '18, headmaster of Kimball Union.
