DURING November the Bequest and Estate Planning Committee of the Alumni Council held its first regional meetings. In previous years it had been customary to have the class chairmen gather in Hanover, but there had been no opportunity for the newsletter editors and the growing numbers of assistants to join in discussions of this work. This year meetings in New York, Boston and Chicago gathered together many of the active workers for a useful exchange of ideas.
Although no prizes were offered for coming from the greatest distance, tribute was paid in New York to Whitney H. Eastman '10 of Minneapolis, A. Kelvin Smith '20 of Cleveland and H. Sheridan Baketel '20 of Philadelphia for their devotion in attending.
Ellsworth B. Buck '14, chairman of the committee, conducted the discussion at each meeting. Subjects of greatest interest were: How to develop an understanding among alumni and friends that provisions of any size were important and that for those of modest means and heavy responsibilities contingent provisions offered participation without sacrifice to dependents; how to use the help of interested classmates to obtain the thoughtful, personal discussion that this type of program requires; how best to develop an understanding of the real advantages through tax savings that can be realized by making some provision for the College in estate plans.
