ALTHOUGH ITS REUNION this year was cancelled because of the war, the Class of 1918 carried through its plan to raise a 25th Year Gift and in July presented Dartmouth College with a check for $20,532.00. This sum from the 'iBers is far and away the largest that has been turned over to the College since the idea of the 25th Year Reunion Fund originated a few years ago with the Class of 1913.
GARRATT HEADS COMMITTEE
David L. Garratt '18 of New York City, chairman of the reunion fund committee, made the presentation to President Hopkins on behalf of his class. Raised during the past year and a half, the fund represents contributions from more than 200 men and is to be carried as a College endowment to be known as the Class of 1918 Fund. Income will be credited to the 1918 Alumni Fund total each year so long as any member of the class is alive, after which the principal may be used as the College trustees see fit.
The 1918 fund-raising overlapped two Alumni Fund campaigns, during both of which the class exceeded its quota by a wide margin. It was conducted by Mr. Garratt with the cooperation of Richard A. Holton '18, Alumni Fund class agent, and of Ernest H. Earley '18, secretary- chairman of the class. The reaching of the $20,000-mark, more than double the next highest agth year gift, brings close to realization the idea of having the fund equal, in thousands of dollars, the number of years that the class has been out of college.
