THOMAS J. DENT, assistant professor o£ physical education and coach of the varsity soccer and lacrosse teams, has been appointed temporary general manager of the Dartmouth Outing Club. Professor Dent, a member of the New Hampshire Fish and Game Commission and a leader in outdoor activities both locally and in the state, takes over the position which has been vacant since John Rand '38 entered the Army last July,

He began his new duties in late June, at the same time continuing in his other positions on the College staff. In addition to its own activities, the Outing Club now administers the facilities of the Ledyard Canoe Club, which has been taken over by the College for the duration.

Professor Dent, who is a native of Stirling, Scotland, received his education at the University of Birmingham, England, and the Berlitz School of Languages. During the World War he served for four years with the British forces in France and Mesopotamia, and in December, 1918, he captained the All-British Army Soccer Team in its tour of France and the occupied areas of the Rhineland.

In addition to being secretary of the N. H. Fish and Game Commission, he has at various times been president of the New England Lacrosse Association and president of the American Soccer Coaches Association. He is also a member of the American Physical Education Association.
