THE MANUSCRIPT OF HIS New YorkTimes magazine article which created international repercussions and drew a rebuke from Russia has been presented to Dartmouth by Wendell Willkie and has been on display in Baker Library's main lobby. The article, "Don't Stir Distrust of Russia," appeared on January 2, 1944, and was written by the former Republican Presidential nominee as a contribution to Russo-American understanding; conseq uently its critical reception in Russia and the sarcastic rejoinder of Pravda, official Russian journal, came as a distinct surprise to the author and the rest of the country, giving rise to the theory that Stalin used the article as a convenient excuse for getting some sort of message across to the Allies. The Willkie article is sure to have a place in the history of the war.

Mr. Willkie received the honorary deg ree of Doctor of Laws from Dartmouth in 1941 and has since visited Hanover in the role of personal friend of President Hopkins.
