Fund Reaches $153,000
June 1944

THE MAY 22 interim report on the 1944 Alumni Fund showed total gifts of $153,752 from 6,737 contributors—figures which represented 62% of the cash objective of $250,000 and 48% of the 13,855 living graduates of the College. Thus, going into its final and most important month, the 1944 Fund was holding its own against last year's record-breaking results, with the damper, however, that Dartmouth men are more widely scattered this year and that it will be more difficult to match the closing rush of 1943 in which 30% of total money and 33% of total gifts were received between June 15 and June 30.

A report of progress, entitled "How Are We Doing?", was mailed by the Alumni Fund Committee to all Dartmouth men late in May, and another general mailing followed by a final reminder will go out from the Committee before the closing date of June 30. Otherwise the 1944 campaign is being carried on entirely by the class agents and their staffs of untiring workers.

Nineteen classes have exceeded their cash objectives for the 1944 campaign and four have 100% or better of contributors. The classes which have gone beyond their dollar goals are headed by 1887 with 278%, 1906 with 239%, 1901 with 238%, 1884 with 223%, and 1889 with 211%. Others in this select group are, in order, 1897, 1941, 1888, 1942, 1940, 1890, 1904, 1894, 1939, 1902, 1938, 1903, 1943, and 1892.

In percentage of contributors, 1898 leads with 117%, followed by 1901 with 114%, 1890 with 112%, and 1889 with 100%.

In its mailing piece distributed in May, the Alumni Fund Committee calls attention to the fact that extra war bonds purchased during the forthcoming Fifth War Loan may be combined with that extra gift to the 1944 Fund, and that the Fund Committee will be glad to receive such additions in the form of Series F or Series G bonds made out to: "Trustees of Dartmouth College, A Corporation, Hanover, N. H." Instructions for converting Series E bonds into other government securities in the College's name may be obtained from the class agents or the Fund office in Hanover.

A newcomer to the ranks of the class agents this past month was C. Irving Lampee '04 of Winchester, Mass., succeeding Ralph E. Sexton '04 of Boston.
