Even if Lt. Lester M. Nichols '4O, Headquarters, Tenth Armored Division, had desired to attend a Dartmouth alumni party in Atlanta on November 6 of last year, his invitation arrived just a bit late for him to enjoy the affair. The envelope in which the invitation was enclosed traveled 10,000 miles and took six months of traveling time to do it. Battered, stamped and restamped, with the notations of a dozen changes of address, the letter crossed the Atlantic Ocean twice and made various revolutions about the United States before it finally came to rest on the desk of the addressee, only a couple of hundred miles from Atlanta. Lt. Nichols had been shifted to a special assignment while the letter faithfully followed his old outfit overseas, over air and overland. Lt. Nichols when finally opening his invitation said, "Well, it was nice to know that I was invited, anyway."
