Lew Erckert writes, "Just a note to let you know that I am receiving The Bulletin OK at my new location out in the Pacific. Vol. xxiv reached here in three weeks. The Bulletin has always been interesting but it is more so out here, so I will appreciate having it sent to my new address." (Lew's address can be had by writing me or the Records Office. Drop him a line.) .... "The only other Dartmouth man I know is Steeve Norris '40 and I will see that he gets the copy.
"Am Maintenance Officer in a Photographic Squadron. My job is to keep 'em flying; and although I cannot tell you the kind of equipment where we fly, I can say that they are not exactly toys, and none of this business out here is child's play.
"Pete Lillard '30 is somewhere in this vicinity. If there is ever a 24 Hour Notice or any class Bulletins, I would appreciate having a copy of same." Thank you, Lew for your fine letter.
Your secretary spent a very pleasant and instructive weekend in Hanover at the Secretaries Meeting and enjoyed seeing Jim and Lou White, Fred Shaneman and his son Dick, Bob Strong and Dot and the family, Geordie Bridge, and the proverbial guys without their wives, Luitweiler and Red Maloney. It was very fine to see Hanover once more, the first visit your secretary had made since 1941.
Jim White was kind enough to furnish the following on the weekend:
"The members of the Class who were fortunate to be in Hanover for the Alumni Conference on June 9 and 10 reported a very pleasant weekend, even though the muchneeded downpour on Saturday washed out the ballgame and kept us close to the Inn.
"Fred Shaneman came from the far West, with his young son Dick, to attend the meeting of the Alumni Council. Fred is chairman of the vocational committee and has a tremendous job on his hands to organize the Alumni Groups throughout the country, so they will be prepared to help Dartmouth men to find jobs, when they return from the War.
"The class secretary and Beat tie Adams reported for the Class at the Secretaries' meeting.
"Bob Strong was on hand for the Alumni Fund, and the writer and his wife represented the Dartmouth Club of New York.
"Red Maloney and Luit Luitweiler arrived in Hanover late Friday night looking for the reunion. We did a little pretending over the weekend, and even managed to invite some of the other classes to join us in our tent on the second floor at the Hanover Inn. There was a big dinner party one evening with the Class of 1926 acting as host, with a bottle of champagne. The College, by the way, is offering a reunion to all classes who, because of the war, have missed their usual organized reunions. Let's hope we are one of the first to take advantage of this plan and will be able to stage a knock-out reunion six months after the war ends."
Thanks for the above, Jim, and also for the bond you sent me for our 25th Gift Fund. Come on fellows, send me something for that Gift Fund. Let's Keep It Flying.
