CHARLEY WIDMAYER '30, who has several jobs with the College that are concerned with the dissemination of news, was in town for a publicity meeting. James L. (Pat) Maloney '13, managing editor of the ChicagoTribune was in England at the time; so Charles did all his planning with Sunday editor Mike Kennedy, and one day shortly afterwards, all of Ruth MacKay's column in that paper was devoted to Dartmouth. In order to get the whole column you must have a message to tell. I know, because Ruth is my wife.
Lt. Richard C. Crabtree '45 was dive bombing north of Rome during the battle for that city.
Marine Captain James D. Tredup '40 was in town after two years in Guadalcanal and points west.
Navy Lt. (jg) Edward S. McKinlay '42 has been shuttling between here and the European theatre like some of us go between Chicago and Milwaukee, except no one is shooting at us.
Army Captain E. E. (Laddie) Myers '20 is leading some Italian sandlot league in batting.
Navy Lt. Larry Milligan '19 states that he is the person for whom it has been a very convenient war. He is stationed at Great Lakes and gets home every night. Maybe it is Larry's reward for being so pleasant the night before embarkation in World War I when he was supplied with sleeping space on the street and an extra paving block for a pillow.
The reports I get of the accomplishments and decorations of Captain Gene Markey '18 of the U. S. Navy ,are so staggering, I dare not repeat them.
