Enrollment chairman Art Kelleher who has been scouring Long Island's high schools and prep schools for freshman material, arranged an informal get-together February 25 at the home of Ed Warnke '19, with eighteen leading prospects from several neighboring schools. A few members of the executive committee who escorted the boys to Ed's Lynbrook home also attended. Tuss McLaughry came down from Hanover with Milt Piepul and freshman coach Ray Truncellito to meet with the group. Tuss spoke to the men in general terms, covering topics such as scholastic grades, types of scholarships available, athletic and coaching prospects, etc., after Milt Piepul had projected some excellent color slides of Dartmouth scenery and activities.
Rog Allen '37 had a local photographer take several shots for New York and Long Island papers, and the accompanying picture shows Tuss and the boys with Ed Reeves '27, Al Fisher '29 and Carll Buehler '30. Refreshments were served and the committee members agreed that the cause of the College was definitely furthered by an affair of this type. Some of the boys are still juniors and will advertise Dartmouth to their classmates during the coming year. We hope we will see many of the high school seniors at Hanover this fall. They were a fine "broughs" of boys.
Long Island wishes to congratulate the editors of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE for the excellent portrayal of the Dartmouth faculty in its February issue. It was a stirring account.
Arrangements for our annual meeting are under way for May 20. It is to be combined with the presence of incoming freshmen and their parents, originally planned for last fall.
Jack Coulson '39 is running the beach party on June 26 at Gilgow Beach and promises a large turnout. All members of the family are invited to this one.
