Never one to be far from the "in" spots of the world, Peter New writes that he will be on a year's sabbatical commencing this July and plans to spend six weeks in the People's Republic of China and eight months in Israel. Peter is a professor in the Department of Behavioral Science and Department of Sociology at the University of Toronto, and has just been elected president-elect of the Society for Applied Anthropology. He will assume the presidency at the society's 1981 meetings in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The latest news release from Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Hampshire reports that Alexander "Zandy" Taft has been named vice-president of professional public relations. Zandy joined B.C./B.S. in 1974 as an administrative assistant to the president for federal-state relations. He was named director of customer service in 1974, and assistant to the president and director of New Hampshire professional relations (lobbying) in May of 1978.

A phone conversation with Al Wagner revealed that daughter Betsy has been accepted into the Dartmouth class of 1983, joining brother Rob class of '82. Al also reported that he and Joyce ran into Jack Taylor and Anne at a recent Alumni College seminar at Lasell College in Auburndale. Jack is a senior marketing representative with IBM in the Boston area and makes his home in Lexington where he is an elected town meeting member. Son Bruce graduated from St. Lawrence and is with the State Street Bank in Boston; daughters Susan and Virginia are attending the University of Maine. Jack is a member of the Minute Man Dartmouth Club, assists in interviewing freshmen applicants, and is a loyal follower of Dartmouth football and hockey. He was still smiling over the Dartmouth defeat of B.U. in the ECAA hockey playoffs.

From Denver, Colo., comes word that DickHanselman recently was named to a post of the United Nations Association Economic Policy Council (E.P.C.) Founded in 1976, the EPC was established to bring together a group of prominent individuals from the labor, business, agricultural, and academic communities and have them discuss, in a relaxed manner, the needs for economic strategies for America. Dick serves on a panel concerned with "Trade Rules in the 1980's." Other panels conducted by the EPC include "Energy and Jobs" and "Technology Transfer." When the panels complete their final review.and recommendations they will be presented to cabinet level officials of the U.S., the President of the United States, and key officials of the United Nations.

Dick joined Samsonite Corp. as president of its toy and luggage divisions. He became president of Samsonite Luggage worldwide in 1973 and was promoted to executive vice president - operations for the corporation in 1974. He was named corporate vice president of Beatrice Foods and president of Samsonite in 1975. The following year he advanced to corporate senior vice president and is currently executive vice president of Beatrice Foods Co. He also serves as director of the United Banks of Colorado, United Bank of Denver, and the National Association of Manufacturers.
