News of victory is just a grain sweeter to all '36ers as our Tenth Reunion—and what a Reunion it will be is now a certainty. Before we know it, old Jocko Morrison will be dunning, begging and squeezing a few dollars plus tax of course out of us, and we'll all be off to Hanover to soak up the profits. Fact is, we expect he would have started already, except that he has been in the Atlanta Naval Hospital with a special fracture of the right leg, a dislocated arm, and a shattered sensory nerve in the arm he broke a year ago. Claims he wasn't drunk, but slipped while playing with Jacko Jr., and his game arm didn't support him. To add to the fun, David Whitney Morrison arrived twenty-six hours later. All are doing better now, thank you, but let it be a warning to all returning Commandosdon't rassle with the young!
Joe Carson's wife, Midge, writes from West Hartford that Joe spent a year in Scotland, medicating, and golfing at St. Andrews, but more recently has been on the Marshalls, Guam, and further up front. He's a flight surgeon attached to the Marines, and recently saw Fred Cleaves and H. Shaw Carter. This may bring peace to the Carter family as Anna Carter writes that Shaw recently saw two classmates but wouldn't mention their names. She, no doubt, knowing Shaw, figured they were Wacs. Shaw is a captain and saw plenty of action on Okinawa. He was shot through the shoulder there last April 21, but after six weeks in a hospital on the Marianas returned to Okinawa only to be injured again, slightly this time. He's been out over forty-two months and should have points enough to come home twice by now.
From Cincinnati, Bill Shaw's old paradise, Mary Miller gives us the saga of Ens. VanceMiller who was drafted into the Seabees two years ago. The Seabees couldn't hold him, but the regular Navy sent him to Harvard, made an ensign of him, and put in on an L.S.M in the South Pacific. She includes the news that Jim Pearson is a jg at Wright Field, Dayton, residing with charming wife and two daughters. From Chicago we learn that the Assistant District Sales Manager of the American Locomotive Company (if he ever sells one he'll be a V. P.), handsome Chuck Venrick has moved to exclusive Wilmette, on an estate complete with badminton. Passing classmates will be welcomed by wife Lou and daughter Betty though we understand you'll have to help dig the pool. From the sultry bottom lands of Peoria, Illinois, Lix Essex beats off the heat with news of little William. While she awaits their second, Bill has become a lieutenant at Carlisle Barracks, Penna., and has finally ended up doing Educational Reconditioning at Fitzsimmons General Hospital, Denver; A half hour with Willie should recondition the returning vet to most anything.
Having scraped under the barrel with news of Venrick and Essex we come once again to the achievement or "Keeds" department: facts of note about fellow classmates, vital statistics, police files, etc.:
