I shall always treasure memories of Harry: memories o£ his skill as a coach, his patience, his constant good humor and practical jokes, his willingness to devote time to helping the greenest and most awkward members of the squad, and his story-telling. Many of his jokes and stories will stick in my memory for a long time, but longer than any Harry ever told I'll remember a story someone else told me about Harry. It is the description of a match race in Madison Square Garden between Harry and Taylor, Pennsylvania's great runner the feature race of the evening. Just as they hit the final turn, with Harry in the lead, Taylor stumbled and fell. Harry looked over his shoulder and saw what had happened, came to an abrupt stop, and went back to help up Taylor. The race was re-run later in the evening, Harry emerging a close winner, much to the delight of the spectators.
