When Class Treasurer Bill Cummings mails annual bills for class dues and the boys promptly send him their checks, it is harvest time for the class secretary. Many of the notes which follow are gleanings from letters received by Bill.
Harry Kelly, of Omaha, Nebr., demands service in return for his prompt payment of dues. "Everyone up at Hanover," he writes to Bill, "used to expect me to know everyone living in Nebraska, so why shouldn't I expect you to know your namesakes in Maine? Are you with Charles B. Cummings & Sons Cos., Norway, Maine? If so. please see that we get better service on dowel rods." Bill's reply to Harry: "I have known of Charles B. Cummings & Sons Cos., Norway, Maine. In fact, I get their mail once in awhile, but I don't know them personally. However, I will give them a little nudge on the dowel deliveries just the same." The moral is obvious. Pay your dues promptly and call on Bill to solve your business problems.
Herb Hinman and Bill Cummings have started an interesting competition. Herb writes: "I am not raising children now but I am raising grandchildren. Got four of them. One set of twin girls. I have three daughters and the youngest one is in school. The other two are married and raising babies." Bill's comeback: "I am doing the same thing you are grandchildren. Today I've got two—in ten days I expect to have four. Those twin girls of yours make me very envious, frankly. That is what we all look forward to, but I am afraid we won't make the grade. There don't seem to be any twins in the background. However, we are still hoping."
A note from George Hoyt to Bill Cummings reports that Bruno Kimball is back (from California) in Ogden, Utah,—his old stamping ground. He also reports seeing Frank Garby in San Francisco. He is "just the same as ever only a little more so."
It was reported in this column in June that Lt. John Churchill, son of Perley Churchill of Berlin, N. H., was reported missing in action over Germany. A recent letter from Perley carries the wonderful news that his son was released from a German prison camp hospital in April.
