George Hawkins in Boston is one of the few who took our plea for news seriously and crashed through with an up-to-the-minute picture of 3iers around the Bean Town. He writes:

After reading your letter in the last two issues of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE and observing your pleas for news, I have decided to break a precedent and try to offer something myself. After all, I've always read the class column with a great deal of pleasure but have never contributed anything. I'll try to give you a round-up concerning the fellows I've seen around Boston lately.

Ed Langenbach lives next door to me in Weston and has a husky son named Reid, age three. Ed is now a partner in the law firm of Brickly, Sears and Cole.

Dick Fisher lives in Winchester and works with the A. C. Lawrence Leather Co. He has two daughters.

Orrie Hobbs is living on a farm of his own making at Lynnfield. He raises chickens, pigs, etc., besides having a large garden. On the "side" Orrie is with his father at the Morton Oil Co. in Maiden, where he is in charge of their heating business.

Bunce Clarkson, from Worcester, and I bumped into each other at the South Station a week ago. Bunce had previously shipped out in the Merchant Marine and was back in Boston to arrange to ship out again. He likes the Merchant Marine because it gives him a chance to get home once in awhile.

Leo McKinney who lived on our street until a few months ago has moved farther out of Boston to Wayland. Leo is a chemist for Lever Bros, and likes to fly in his spare time. Quite often he has scared the neighborhood to death by cutting the engine on his plane and swooping down around our houses. Leo is married and has a daughter about two.

As for ourselves, we are about to move to Chicago after having spent the thirteen years since graduation right here in Boston. I have been with Fairbanks Morse for the last twelve years and they have seen fit to place me in the Diesel Engine Division at the company's Home Office, and to move my entire family to Chicago. I shall only remain there for one year when I shall be moved on to some other place,—where, I have no idea.

I have two boys, ages seven and four respectively. The older boy says to heck with going to Chicago so we may have to Shanghai him to make the move. I sold my house a few days ago to another Dartmouth man—class of '22—so if anyone knows of a house or a place to live in Chicago, I'd like to hear about it.

Thanks, George, for your letter and I only wish that more of the gang would follow your example and shoot us a line. Good luck on the new job.

A letter from Don Richardson '32 says that Ace Phinney had recently been detached as executive officer of the USS and returned to the States. Don didn't like to see him go but thought that it probably meant a better billet for him. Don had also seen Frank Kinderman twice.

Both Dick Cukor and Monk McCord had a chance to get home for Christmas. Dick has been in the South Pacific and has been transferred to the Naval Training Station at Sampson, N. Y., where he is assigned as an instructor. Monk is stationed in Washington for a short time where he is taking advanced training in Gunnery School.

Coming out on the train the other night I ran into Al McGrath. Alp has received his discharge from the Navy and is the New York representative for an importing company. He specializes in imports from Cuba and is building quite a business for his firm.

Meant to report in the last column, that Dick (Capt.) Holbrook had stopped at the house when he was last in Scarsdale. Dick is a captain in the Marines, in Aviation. He was at Quantico with Bob Bottome and they both were appointed captains upon the completion of their work. Dick then went on to Quonset and it was from there that he was heading West. He and Peg left for California early in December for the next assignment.

Here are some of the newest address changes: Lt. Joe Barrington, 3371 Jackson St., San Francisco, Calif., USN; Lt. George Conklin, Summerland, Calif., USN (this was quick shift for George who was married a couple of months ago); Lt. Jack Ewers, Cambridge Arms Apts., Evansville, Ind., USN; Lt. Mai Hall, 1628 Fitzgerald Lane, Alexandria, Va., USN; Lt. John Milos, 804 Colonial Ave., Pelham Manor, N. Y., USN; F. Forsha Russell, 595 Madison Ave., N. Y. C., Standard Brands; Res. 361 North Maple Ave., Greenwich, Conn.

Details are missing, but there is the report of the promotion of Cliff Powers to lieutenant commander. Congratulations, Cliff.

And best wishes and congratulations, too, to Betty and Gray Magee whose marriage took place on November 24.
