Lt. (jg) Bill McElnea recently finished a refresher course at the Hutchinson, Kansas, Naval Air Station, but his whereabouts at present isn't known to us. A newspaper clipping reveals that Johnny Denison, flying a Grumman Hellcat fighter, scored a direct hit on a German gun emplacement during the invasion of southern France. Ensign Cliff Baum has returned to the States after action in the same campaign as skipper of a PT, and is now stationed in Rhode Island. He promised to furnish some material for the "Hearts and Flowers" dept. but it hasn't been forthcoming as yet. Walt Olin is a lieutenant in the Marines and at last report was at Parris Island. Jack Schultz is with a Navy outfit in the Pacific Bob Blair has been reported to be in Italy, still with the American Field Service; there's a chance that he may have returned home recently, but nothing more definite than that is known.

I was surprised to bump into Dave Eckles in the gym at Hanover one day around Christmas, He's in the V-12 unit and going to Tuck. He divulged the information that Don Sheridan, of motorcycle fame in the environs of Hanover, is'at present flying a P-51 in China. Also that Gordie Plummer is a lieutenant and stationed at the East Boston airport. Lt. Tom Crowder was another '44 seen in Hanover during the holiday season. Tom's studying at M.I.T. Jim Gore is now a jg, present location unknown, however. Ralph Beaman is an ensign doing a little dry-land sailing at the University of Colorado. Sandy McCreery is also reported to be an ensign. Spence Baird received his Masters degree in organic chemistry a short time ago. .... Win Martin, who early in the war saw a lot of service in Africa with the American Field Service, now finds himself with the Army in the Philippines Johnny McAllister is a supply officer on a ship in the Pacific Larry Flower is instructing army flyers in Mississippi Rog Clark is back in Washington, having been in Africa for quite a spell

Fred Daley is studying radar at Corpus Christi. Boge Bogart is at Yale Law School. Bud Zetterberg is at Lovell Hospital, Fort Devens, having been wounded in action near St. Lo and brought back to the U. S. by hospital ship. Best wishes for a rapid and full recovery, Bud Bob Colwell has been promoted to sergeant. He's a radar mechanic with a troop carrier group which has been cited for outstanding work in flying support to troops in the Imphal Valley, India, and the Myitkyina area in Burma. The unit is now back in the Mediterranean area, from which they were called suddenly for the job in India.

Lt. Ja Densmore has been awarded an Oak Leaf Cluster to the Air Medal for "meritorious achievement," while taking part in bombing raids on German industrial targets and military strong points." Steve Tate was commissioned on December 13 at Fort Benning, Ga Pvt. Jim Tillson has been awarded the Bronze Star for work as a cannoneer on a 155 Mi howitzer in operations on Saipan. He "became a casualty on July 1." Unfortunately, this quotation is the only information I have at present.

Frank Jones and wife were in town shortly before Christmas. Frank is stationed in Georgia From Ens. Hal Stein comes news of our '44 Thayer School contingent:

After being commissioned into the Civil Engineer Corps, in May, at Camp Peary, Va., I had three months advanced Seabee training at Camp Endicott. Other Dartmouth men who were there in my class were Bill Wallace, Gordy Ross, Dell Field, George Dyke, Warren Kimball, Wally Acher, all '44s, and Ted Bush '45. Since then we've all been shipped out with the exception of a couple. I flew out here to the Admiralties from Frisco, coming via Pearl Harbor and the Mar- shall. Wally Acher was on the next island to ours till a few weeks ago, but has since left. I bumped into George Dyke at the Fleet Officer's club a month ag0.... since then he has gone to Leyte. Bill Wallace is in the Hawaiians with the 36th Construction Regt.

Tom Wright is about to or has gone overseas with a Navy medical unit. His engagement to Jean Maxwell of Rutland, Vt., took place last October. Two other engagements this month are those of Charlie Schumacher and Hud Wilson. Charlie is engaged to Fern Woodward of Springfield, Mass., and Mary Washington College. At last word Charlie was located at Ontario, Calif., as an AAF pilot. Hud is engaged to Marilyn Duxbury of New York.
