DR. WING-TSIT CHAN, Professor of Chinese Culture, spoke on March 24 on China's Postwar Problems at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Boston. Dr. Chan's talk was one in a series of four lectures sponsored by the United China Relief. The lecturers included Hu Shih, former Chinese Ambassador to the United States, and other noted Chinese.

Prof. Bancroft H. Brown, director of Navy V-ia mathematics and recently elected chairman of the various V-12 course directors, has been named a member of the Unit's Academic Board, replacing Prof. Anton A. Raven of the English Department who has resigned from the Board because of his leave of absence this term.

Seven members of the faculty have been appointed by President Hopkins to serve as acting Division, department and course chairmen this term in place of men who are on leave of absence. Prof. Earl R. Sikes, Economics Department, has taken over as temporary head of the Division of the Social Sciences, and the following professors have assumed acting chairmanships in their departments: Arthur H. Olivers '02, Botany; William F. Geiger '92, Education; Hewette E. Joyce, English; Leslie F. Murch, Physics; Charles L. Stone '17, Psychology. Prof. W. Benfield Pressey is acting in place of Prof. Anton A. Raven as director of Naval English.

Prof. W. Byers Unger of the Zoology Department and Miss Katherine Leidy of Westminster, Md., were married on Feb. 27. Professor and Mrs. Unger are both graduates of Western Maryland College and Mrs. Unger has taught in the high schools of Maryland. Professor Unger has been a member of the Dartmouth faculty since 1925.
