This is about the last opportunity to put in a plug for our Class Memorial Fund Gift. Stan tells me there is still a long ways to go and not much more time to reach our "Twenty Grand". Now that income taxes are settled why not take the refund you're expecting and help the class reach its objective? The sooner you can contribute the more time Stan will have to work on those who have been a bit negligent. I feel sure we'll all give something but have been putting it off for no good reason.

A welcome letter from Wade Smith reveals the fact that his son, Warren, Dartmouth '45, has graduated as an ensign (line officer) from Fort Schuyler, New York, and is now in Miami for training at the Advanced Navigation Officers School. He spent his leave with Wade and mother at West Palm Beach, Fla., where the Smiths have spent a couple of winter months for the last five years. While in the Navy department you'll be glad to hear that Mel Merritt has been promoted to commander My son has finished his "boot Training" at Sampson, N. Y., and has been sent to a hospital corps school in San Diego, Calif.

Tom Ainsworth is in Hawaii at a Base Hospital. Bake had a letter from him previous to the above assignment from an unnamed island below the Equator where he was in an Officer Replacement School waiting for something to happen. Tom said it was a most enchanting spot where you wear shorts during the day and sleep under a blanket at night; took a least one swim each day in beautiful blue water, and ate well at the rate of per meal. He also related what a strange feeling it was to spend Christmas on board ship. Spence Snedecor is now stationed in a hospital at Camp Lee, Va. I imagine he hated to leave Valley Forge where he has been stationed for some time.

Just as the above was about to be mailed a V-mail letter was received from Jack Mayer. He tells of meeting Charlie Sargent in Verdun. Charlie has seen a lot of fighting, having been in the forefront of Patton's army all the way across France and Germany. Jack claims to have taken it easier with his "heavy" A. A. vs. Charlies "lights" Jack wishes, with all of us, that we could be together in June.
