My news is that according to scripture, "The dog returneth to his vomit." I am back in my native State—to end my days, probably, though you can never tell. If I live to be a hundred years old, I am practically certain to move at least once more. Have never been in one place more than a dozen "years since I went to Chicago in 1901.
My daughter, Helen D. Mills, widow, loves to look at mountains. So she sold her home in Virginia and came up here where mountains are the commonest things there are. I like mountains too, so I rented my place in Hilton Village and came along with her. This is a nice town and a good place to be in except in winter. I hope to Be able to go south before the weather gets too cold again.
I am less active than I used to be—short of breath—but I get around this 24-acre estate and am pleased to renew acquaintance with the birds and flowers of yester-year. While others go to church or the movies, I ramble in the woods for entertainment and inspiration. Heard a partridge drum the other day, the first time in many years. Built a birdhouse when I first came. Bluebirds are building in it. And so I amuse myself as I have long done and look forward for a pleasant sojourn.
